Eigentlich ist bei McDonalds so ziemlich alles konfektioniert, Abweichungen sind – im Sinne von Niedrig-Preisen und „kulinarischer Konstanz“ – unerwünscht. Wenn man in Singapur in einen Burger beißt, wird das genauso schmecken wie in Berlin. Ebenso wirken die einzelnen Filialen total normiert, und dass, obwohl McDonalds als Franchise-System funktioniert, bei dem der einzelnen Filialleiter eine eigenständige wirtschaftliche Einheit leitet.
Allerdings gibt es rund um den Globus dann doch mehr Abweichungen von der verordneten Einheitlichkeit, als man annehmen würde, gerade in jenen Winkeln der Welt, auf die sich die Augen der Konzernleitung nicht regelmäßig richten.
